The 9/11 tribute from the RNC, in case anyone missed it.
In other news, like everyone else, I went to Chelsea last night. Phoebe Washburn at Zach Feuer is more than worthwhile.
But in all honesty, the aesthetics of the election are simply more interesting to me right now. Is art not interesting enough, in general? Or is the election legitimately gripping?
Well, *I'm* certainly finding the election more gripping than any of the art I saw last night, but I'm not sure whether this is because it's genuinely interesting, or whether it's just an addictive escapist behavior I'm engaging in, in order to avoid my own life at the moment.
However, what my with my pet theories about the evolution of moral reasoning, I'm wondering--are the Democrats coming out the other side of identity politics, into a genuinely transpersonal viewpoint? And is this becoming enough of a majority view that we will see some seismic shifts in planetary consciousness? The Republicans certainly seem to be stuck in no-man's land, between a rigidity of 'morality' that has lost all connection with a real grounding point, and a sort of fake, pseudo-identity-politics that is a mask for infantile cultural tribalism. Is this sort of thing moving to the back of the bell curve? Please, could this be true?
Palin is Bush in a skirt, in other words, and the Base is enthralled.

Right...
I can't tell whether I am engaging in mindless procrastination or lucky enough to actually witness The Moment Everything Turned Inside Out either.
But any creative pursuit involves watching and down time, right?
And the way all the snakes are eating their own tails is legitimately interesting, right?

That's what I'm telling myself. And at the moment I'm unable to expose myself to the toxic chemicals that my work requires, so I've got to do SOMETHING to fill the time.
How many times a day are YOU checking Sullivan? More than twelve? Do I require an intervention?

trust me the election is it. I'm glued to so many blogs and news sites since Palin that I'm seeing things in the shadows. I keep thinking, am I watching our collective sanity finally vanish and we wake up in the 16th century?
but I am painting everyday too to keep my street cred.I'm one of the lucky unemployed Obama keeps mentioning :)

McCain's GOP convention in a nutshell.
All of it angers and saddens me. We must, as a group, be better then this. We have to be.
Keep up the good, honest posts Deborah.
